Saskatchewan Metis Set To Elect A Leader...Next Year

Good news out of Saskatchewan for the Metis Nation;

Metis Nation – Saskatchewan (MNS) election, after two years of stalemate over a scandal-plagued vote that led to turmoil in the Metis community and a cutoff of government funding to the MNS.
On Friday, the provincial and federal governments announced the appointment of three prominent Saskatchewan Metis citizens — Marilyn Poitras, Rita Bouvier and Ronald George James Lamabe — as an oversight committee for a fair and democratic vote.“Their work will span all aspects from beginning to end of the next MNS election. This includes developing a timeline, work plan and budget for the election, establishing an objectively verifiable voters list and overseeing the post-election appeals process,” said Maynard Sonntag, provincial First Nations and Metis Relations minister, at a news conference.David Hamilton, the Northwest Territories’ former chief electoral officer and clerk of the legislative assembly, was also appointed as chief electoral officer for the next election.
While the Metis Nation Legislative Assembly still has to approve a new election, both Sonntag and Rod Bruinooge, parliamentary secretary for Federal Interlocutor for Metis and Non-Status Indians Jim Prentice, expressed confidence a vote will go ahead sometime next year.As well, the process is being backed by the Metis National Council.
Even the embattled leadership of the MNS indicated its support Friday for the oversight committee and a new vote.

Gotta Mention My Boys

Congratulations to all my sons for their accomplishments this past school year. The oldest, Kevin, has graduated Daniel McIntyre Collegiate this year and he intends on pursuing a career in either hotel management or as a police officer. Kevin and Derek had some tough times to cope with over the last couple of years ( the random home invasion all my kids were put through..Kevin and Derek were so brave..the 3 masked intruders had guns and they both protected their baby brother and sister. Just the emotional distress these boys went through and how they remained somewhat unaffected, is a testament to their bravery and courage).
My youngest son Joseph, has graduated grade 9 and will go on to Kildonan East Collegiate. Joseph breezed through the school year with an 80% average. He was also on the school basketball team, and both he and Derek will both be playing high school football this year. (pictured, from top, Derek, Kevin and Joseph Sanderson)

..Me and mom are so proud of these guys.

Chartrand Wins Convincingly

Their 2003 battle-to-the-last-ballot might not see its encore.
David Chartrand, the incumbent president of the Manitoba Metis Federation, and challenger Yvon Dumont faced off in a leadership vote yesterday.
As of press time, Chartrand took the lead with 2,675 votes, over Yvon Dumont's 1,610.
But a few large polls, including two in Winnipeg, remained to be counted.
In 2003, Chartrand eked by with just 20 more votes than Dumont after an official recount
Chartrand said yesterday he felt confident he'd add to his nine years in office.
"I definitely feel very much in the lead so far," said Chartrand early last night. "I feel very confident I'll be declared President again by 12:30 a.m. (today)."
If re-elected, Chartrand promises to complete an inventory of Metis post-secondary programs and students and cater job programs to the findings.

----------------------------------------------------------

I would just like to note the anonymous Chartrand supporters, especially this anonymous dude by the name of gros michif...sorry for the name misspelling sometimes on the comment section I do that.....These anonymous individuals have been just as tacky attacking Yvon, I just didn't post their comments. This was an election campaign you wouldn't see any negativity towards my candidate for the plain and simple reason that David Chartrand would do the same....politics gros michif...that's all. You shouldn't take politics so personally, but sadly some are new to the opposition concept. There's way more to life than this. I truly enjoyed my involvement in this campaign, and this site will stay active. Although I touted Yvon, my main focus was bring to peoples attention the deficencies within the Chartrand admin. and of course to see him lose. All have to admit that the President spent an awful lot of money..MMF and his own, to raise his profile and that eventually become the deciding factor in the election. Yvon had a little website..I had this free one..David had an elaborate website, billboards,CBC ads, one hour weekly radio show, cash announcements during election time. Any media professional will tell you money can indeed decide an election. For that Mr Chartrand you deserve accolades. To all who have heard me say I will fall in line...That will not and shouldn't stop me or anyone from asking the tough questions..and expect some answers. I will have more to say on this election campaign once I get to go over the voting numbers.

----------------------------------------------
A person left a comment stating Dina Delaronde won for board member Winnipeg region. I was trying to access info from sources within Dumont's camp but after the first report some phones were turned off...I now know why...lol. Hey todays another day and its supposed to be beautiful, so to the Dumont team, go out have a couple
and keep on fighting for the Metis cause.

Dave Chartrand Re-Elected

Like I said earlier details and voting numbers are sketchy, but it appears that David chartrand has been re-elected to serve another four years to represent the Metis of Manitoba. Carla Engel has been elected as board member Winnipeg region. I have no info as to the other board member elected. If the reports are true, and they were related from a reliable source, congratulations Dave and Carla

Details are sketchy but...

Ron Chartrand has been re-elected !!! Congrats Ron...other info I can share is with 30% of the polls in David Chartrand is leading by approx. 150 vote...all rural tallies at this point,,,I m trying my best. hang in there we should have elected a leader within the hour.

A Few Communities Have Reported, MMF Election update

I can't specify the communities that have reported as of now, but reports are with approximately 100 ballots tallied Chartrand is in the lead by 10...I ll try to get more specific...things seem pretty tight

Winnipeg Region Polling Station

Just got back from voting and I m happy to report the CEO seems to have done his job. There are many officials overseeing the process, and that is very encouraging. The voters in attendance numbered around 20, but you can expect those numbers to skyrocket with the after work crowd. All in all a very well run election at this point.....I gave the election contact number as the Friendship Centre yesterday...that was wrong...the number you can contact if you require a ride or have any questions; Yvon Dumont Campaign headquarters, 589 6502. I urge all to get out and vote...lets get the voting numbers to 8,000 plus...last election there were 7,031 votes cast across the province.

After the polls close this evening, Metis News and Stuff be providing vote tallies from all polling stations and regions as they come in.

Winnipeg Sun - Two Vie For Top Metis Job

Here is an excerpt from a Winnipeg Sun article dated today;

For the second consecutive election, Metis in Manitoba will choose between the same two political rivals when they head to the polls tomorrow.
Incumbent David Chartrand and challenger Yvon Dumont are facing off for the Manitoba Metis Federation presidency, three years after their first battle ended up in a Winnipeg courtroom.
Their campaign platforms revolve around promises to improve school and work opportunities for Metis youth and adults.
Dumont, 55, is promising to lobby Ottawa to allow the MMF to use its surplus to fund Metis students' university tuition.

TRANSPARENCY

'The youth are what we're all about. The better they do, the prouder we all are,' said Dumont, a former Manitoba lieutenant-governor. He was MMF president from 1984 to 1993.
He wants to set up an independent finance committee to improve transparency within the federation.
Both candidates have received their share of criticism recently -- Chartrand for participating in public funding announcements during the campaign and Dumont for missing five public forums.
Dumont said forum dates were set after the start of the campaign and he missed the events because of prior commitments.
Chartrand said the announcements -- including a $1.8-million deal to build affordable housing units -- were arranged before the campaign. Dumont said forum dates were set after the start of the campaign and he missed the events because of prior commitments.
Chartrand narrowly defeated Dumont by 20 votes in a recount when they faced off in 2003. What followed was a lengthy court process, which saw Dumont try to force a new election on the grounds of prior election irregularities.
He was successful but the Manitoba Court of Appeal overturned a court ruling ordering MMF to hold a second vote.

MMF President Acknowledges Progressive Conservative Support...Not Individual

During an interview with the Interlake Spectator, Manitoba Metis Federation President David Chartrand openly admitted that Progressive Conservative members have endorsed his candidacy in the upcoming MMF election. When speaking to a reporter and asked how the campaign has been going, the current leader stated;

“It’s turned into a dirty campaign with mud and sticks. Signs and posters have been ripped and destroyed but I don’t care,” Chartrand said. “The support is strong. Last night there were five MLAs out from the Conservatives who clearly said I was the best leader.”

The double-talking President stated what has been obvious for a week now...according to Chartrand the five Progressive Conservative MLAs were indeed speaking as party members when they publically endorsed Chartrand. The President wasted no time...the next day to be exact, to use the endorsements to his advantage during the MMF election campaign.
Advocates for the PCs and the current Metis leader have spoken in defense of the MLAs endorsement recently and now have seen their candidate resorting to using the provincial party as his political weapon.

Conor Lloyd former communications director of the Federation, responded to allegations of political interference by the Conservatives in an article posted on his blog last week;.......

"it was made abundently clear that they were speaking as individual MLA's and not as a party...if it was a party endorsement things would have been different."

I can hear the excuses now...the President was misquoted, he was working on two hours sleep and so on.
Frank Godon also had this to say;

In the Sun story it is clearly stated “Schuler said the MLAs were acting as individuals and do not speak for their caucus or their party by endorsing Chartrand.” Key word here is “individuals” far from what Derryl has written Endorsment of a person on a personal basis has nothing to do with affiliation as mentioned in the constitution. Its simply two people (friends) if you must supporting each other in their indevor (sic)

Read Chartrand's statement to the Spectator...nobody made those words up.
Spin the story the way you men wish, the President has spoken on the matter, the defense of Ron Schuler and the others has been rendered useless, by your candidate.
Article two of the Manitoba Metis Federation constitution has been breached repeatedly by Mr Chartrand. No political affiliation with any political party.....500 PC memberships sold from MMF head office, Liberal endorsement and financial contributions, I can go on.
It is entirely possible these PC members truly wanted to appear acting as individuals...The President shot down that notion one day after their public announcement.

Metis Protesting Hydro At The Legislature

Kim Lavallee provides this newsworthy item....Thanks Kim.

"Last evening while out for a ride on our motorcycle my husband and I decided to take a drive to the Leg to go see the statue of Louis Riel which we do at least once a year. Right by the front entrance we noticed a group of people sitting around tents and happened to notice a Metis Flag, so of course we stopped in. A group of Metis protesters from Grand Rapids lead by Mrs. Nellie Morrisseau have set up camp at the Legislature. Today is their 20th day there. The reason for the protest is the same old story. Manitoba Hydro came into their community 45 years ago, built a dam and everyone in the area was compensated but the Metis.They were very eager to share there story. We told them that what they were doing was courageous and that if there was anything other than support we could provide them to just ask. Being modest as Metis people are they mentioned that if we wanted to do anything maybe bring some food by. When I asked what they needed, Mrs. Morrisseau said anything. So today I roasted 2 chickens, boiled up some perogies, and picked up some buns and pop and took it to them for their supper. I sat and chatted with them for another hour. The funny thing is that when I arrived, they were all scrambling to get me something to drink.

I admire what they are doing and Mrs. Morresseau said that every time they feel like giving up and going home, someone else stops by to offer their support and encouragement and that keeps them there one more night. What they are doing may go a long way in obtaining Metis rights so please take the time to stop by to show your support and if you can spare a buck or two pick them up a box of donuts or some cold drinks. Also they are planning to hold another rally next week so any support they can get would be very appreciated. I wonder if another 25 tents went up in support if it would get the attention of the MLA's. Or what about 50 or 60 people sitting around playing some good old Metis music".

Please stop by and see them.

P.C. Leader Hugh McFadyn Must Address The Metis Nation of Manitoba

The so called "unprecedented" move, of endorsing a Manitoba Metis Federation Presidential candidate by members of the Manitoba Progressive Conservative Party, has been condemned by many members of the Metis advocacy organization, and are being construed as 'political favor payback' .
PC MLAs David Faurschou, Jack Penner, Jack Reimer, Denis Rocan and Ron Schuler are taking sides in the MMF election, and have thrown their support behind the tarnished political reputation of current President David Chartrand.
This open endorsement by the Conservative members clearly shows these maverick members of the opposition either have no regard for the MMF constitution or did not research article 2 which states the MMF have no affiliation with any political party. When these men decided to publically announce as a group, their support, they ceased to act as individuals and are now speaking as representatives of the PC party of Manitoba. I have contacted the leader of the PCs of Manitoba , Hugh McFadyn and I am awaiting a response from the newly elected leader of the right-wing party. Here is a form response from the PC communication director that was sent today;

Good afternoon Mr. Sanderson,

I would like to address concerns you've raised regarding some of our MLA's publicly supporting Mr. Chartrand in the upcoming MMF election. Please note their decision to endorse this candidate was something they chose to do on their own as individuals. In no way were they speaking on behalf of our Leader, Hugh McFadyen, PC Caucus or the PC Party of Manitoba.

I trust this provides you with the official position you were seeking on this matter.

Sincerely,

Michelle Bailey

Hardly an answer that is palatable to Metis members and I have asked for a response from Mr. McFadyn (pictured left). The Metis will be watching to see how he decides to tackle this very contentious issue.

There also must be attention brought to the "unprecedented" massive PC membership campaign that was orchestrated from the President's office a few months ago; PC membership applications were being handled by executive to the President, Cindy Millar, and solicited by MMF head office. There were reports that upwards of 400 memberships to the Conservative party were sold in this manner, with some MMF employees membership fees payed for by unknown sources. Conor Lloyd, the former communications director of the MMF, was known to be in bed with one of the PC leadership candidates, Ron Schuler, and was openly touting the campaign from 150 Henry. Once Metis members knew of the trickery and disrespect shown to our constitution, Mr Schuler was handed a surprising, stinging and humbling defeat at the hands of McFadyn during the recent leadership contest.
We Metis don't appreciate our constitution being dishonored.
This endorsement by these five members, clearly must be viewed as political payback...you scratch my candidate, I scratch yours.
One only has to look at the blatant disregard these PC members and the David Chartrand team seem to have towards our constitution to see the reasoning behind Schuler and the others endorsement; selling 400 memberships can do a lot for endorsments...the Conservatives have never endorsed a Metis federation candidate until Chartrand decided to hawk PC memberships ...or wait..maybe these PC members are just supporting Davey's platform. The same hogwash that Chartrand spewed, while explaining the other constitution non-adherence issue. During the federal elections, the President again chose to ignore the constitution by openly endorsing the federal Liberal party, then explaining it away by stating he only was supporting the Liberal platform, how dim does Chartrand think the Metis voters are ??.
Here is a leader that runs like a bull through a china shop, showing no regard to the people and the nation that he was supposed to lead...not dictate.

---------------------------------------------

With all of the MMF resources being utilized by Chartrand during his re-election bid, challenger Yvon Dumont is certainly not being afforded a level playing filed during this campaign and I urge all Metis to get the anti-Chartrand word out.....only six more days 'til we go to the polls. Mr Chartrand is utilizing MMF money in order to gain higher profile during this campaign, Mr Dumont has the will of the people..The true Metis values will win out this go round.

Dan Lett Of The Free Press Criticizes MMF President's Election Tactics

Dan Lett of the Free Press takes time to give his views on the 2006 Manitoba Metis Federation election. He touches on the media manipulation tactics utilized by the current President and the Manitoba Metis Federation. Its good to see the mainstream writers seeing right through Chartrand's attempt to fool the Metis of Manitoba. It is appears that Chartrand is attempting to win this election by purchasing media time and making financial announcements during the campaign. Desperate measures indeed. Letts commentary is posted below;

It’s the rematch between current president David Chartrand and former MMF president and Lt. Gov. Yvon Dumont. Think of it as “the Rumble by the River.”
Chartrand and Dumont have been looking forward to this rematch. In 2003, Chartrand won by less than two dozen votes, and the results were initially overturned in a judicial review. The Manitoba Court of Appeal ultimately reinstated the results, but the blood flowed freely in the meantime.
Metis politics is, at the best of times, a pretty woolly affair. And this election is no different. First among the issues to arise is the conduct of the current president during the writ period After calling the election for June 29, Chartrand has been making full use of MMF resources to support his bid. He appeared in a high-profile television advertising campaign which ran during prime time Stanley Cup hockey games. Dumont has called foul, but Chartrand explained he was not able to stop the ad buy in time to prevent the spots from airing during an election

The Sausage Factory will not preach to the current president, but we can point out what is considered fair ball in elections at other levels of government.
Incumbency is a tremendous weapon in an election but most incumbent politicians and governments at least try to pull in their horns while the election is actually going on. Provincial and federal governments may celebrate past accomplishments, but they don’t unveil new initiatives during writ periods. Federal governments will not unveil new initiatives during provincial campaigns, and vice versa.
Example: in 2003, Premier Gary Doer paraded in front of the new and improved Gimli Health Centre, a project his government had announced and delivered months earlier. However, it’s pretty unlikely Doer would have unveiled the Gimli project in the middle of an election. To do so would be an unfair use of incumbency, and incumbents already have a lot going for them.
It bears mentioning that the NDP government, never shy to claim credit for spending money, did NOT issue a news release on this project.

In a kind and thoughtful way.
With encouragement and forgiveness

Winnipeg Blue Bombers Lose To Alouettes In Season Opener

Kevin Glenn displayed shades of respectability at the quarterback position, but two late interception tosses led to the Blue Bombers 27-17 loss to the Montreal Alouettes.
Glenn began the game strong, leading the Bombers to a touchdown on the teams first drive, amassing 84 yards in 11 plays, a drive that was capped off with a one-yard 6 point score by Glenn. He finished miserably as usual, and cost the Bombers any chance they had to win in hostile Percival Stadium with two picks and lack of awareness.
Glenn's biggest downfall throughout this game was his inability to figure out the Montreal blitz package. Montreal consistently put 7 men on the defensive front and Glenn looked like a deer caught in a spotlight. You would hope that a pro quarterback could make some adjustments, seeing that the blitz Montreal ran was repeated over and over.
This goes back to my belief that the Bombers can never win the "big ones" with Glenn at the helm because he doesn't posess the on-field vision that separates great QBs ( Calvillo, Flutie, Moon) from average ones. Head Coach Doug Berry has seemed willing to change the starter at the QB position and as a fan I hope that he will not wait too long before giving another Bomber gunslinger a chance.
The Bombers continually shot themselves in the foot by taking dumb penalties that totaled almost 200 yards. Mike Abou-Mechrek was the main culprit committing seven infractions all by himself. Highlights for the Bombers have to be the defense and new receiver Andrae Thurmon.
The Winnipeg defence laid off on the blitzing early, and the cornerbacks, always a weak link in the Big Blues D, stood up to task of covering the talented Alouette receiving corp. Wide receiver Ben Cahoon of the Alouettes showed frustration early at the blanket coverage that was provided by Stanford Samuels and the rest of the Bomber Dbacks. As a former defensive half myself, I was so pleased to see this improvement in the 2006 Blue. Too many times last season the team gave up in excess of 400 yards in the air, no way to win.
Samuels also added a pick and a punt block to his impressive game stats. The punt block was subsequently returned for a touchdown by new comer Mike Charlton, one of many super additions by General manager Brendan Taman. Kicker Troy Westwood rounded out the Bomber scoring with a 36 yard field goal and two converts. His Montreal counterpart Dave Duval, was good on four for six field goal attempts and also added a single and two converts. Robert Edwards scored two TDs on runs of 4 and 3 yards. After a fantastic start to the game the Bombers offence fizzled and Glenn must take responsibility for the lack of big plays. Two interceptions in the fourth quarter in a game the Bombers defense was controlling, was unacceptable.
Next up for the Bombers are the Toronto Argonauts and former Miami Dolphin running back Rickey Williams. I have tickets to this game and can't go cause I have to work out of town. Rickey's appearance should prove to be interesting, as he hasn't showed the explosive power that was his trademark during his NFL playing days, but he's a good one so you can expect him to break out soon...Hopefully not next Friday at Winnipeg Stadium. To all Winnipeggers....You must take this opportunity to see one of the most truly gifted players, football has to offer...yeah so what he smokes pot, he can also run over Julius Peppers of the Carolina Panthers.

First Nation to Vote On Wuskwatim Dam Today

Voting on a historic referendum began at the Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation in northern Manitoba Wednesday, as band members cast ballots on whether to proceed with the proposed Wuskwatim hydro project.
The Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation (NCN), located at Nelson House in northern Manitoba, is conducting a series of votes across Manitoba on the $1-billion, 200-megawatt Wuskwatim generating station in the band's resource-management area on the Burntwood River in northern Manitoba.
If the proposal is approved, the band would invest $28 million — plus a $56-million loan from Manitoba Hydro — in return for a 33 per cent share in the completed dam.
If the proposal is rejected, the dam won't be built.
Although no profits are guaranteed, officials with NCN's future development office estimate the band could receive $1 to $3 million in profits annually starting in 2010 while it pays off loans to finance its portion of the project.
Once those loans are paid, they estimate the band could take in $15 to $20 million per year over the life of the generating station.

Community divided over decision

Band members braved wet and cold weather to make the choice in the first of two scheduled votes on the reserve. Some said they voted yes, hoping for prosperity for the future.
"Well, that dam will be generating revenues for the next 200 years. It's a renewable resource, and it creates jobs," said Travis Burton, a carpenter on the reserve.
"I could see in 30 years that there's going to be paved roads, sidewalks maybe even … better houses, better living conditions."
Others voted no, urging the community to hold out for a better deal.
"I'm not interested in the Wuskwatim deal, because it's our resource area and it's our land," said Ralph Moore, who said he voted against the project.
It's not clear which side will win the vote, and the decision is tearing the community apart. The choice is an emotional one, and, according to Chief Jerry Primrose, couldn't be more dramatic.
"Nelson House is either going to go … straight up, or if people decide, and respectfully so, if they say no, it's going to stay down here," Primrose said, pointing at the floor.

Vandals target signs

The controversy is dividing even friends and families. Coun. Elvis Thomas, for instance, negotiated the deal, while his sister, Carol Kobliski, actively opposes it.
"It's very hard because he's pushing for it and I'm trying to get people to vote no and get a better deal," Kobliski said.
The division can also been seen around the reserve, where posters have been torn down by vandals.
"Some people are afraid to hang the 'vote no' signs outside because they fear there might be some kind of reprisal," said Jim Moore, who opposes the project.
Band members voted Wednesday in advance polls. Polls will open again on June 14 in Nelson House, Thompson, South Indian Lake, Leaf Rapids, Winnipeg and Brandon.
The ratification requires a double majority to pass; a majority of registered band members over age 18 must vote, and a majority of those voting must approve the project for it to proceed.
The project also requires provincial and federal approvals. If it is given the green light, officials expect construction to begin this summer.
source: CBC news

This is obviously a huge vote for Nelson House today. While I know there is a need for economic development in the area, the environmental impact is also of concern. Tough battle, democracy will dictate the future of the dam and that is a good thing. Whatever the outcome, I wish all NCN residents the best.

Randy Delaronde Sends Comment to Metis News And Stuff

Randy Delaronde has come out swinging with pointed questions concerning the Chief Electoral office, the so called "debates" and other items of interest. This is why I fully support Randy Delaronde in his quest to be elected Winnipeg region board member.
I believe that he would not sit idly by for three years in office while Winnipeg region gets funding cuts and little or no new money. Randy would be a positve voice in the boardroom and would not let the Winnipeg Metis voters be uninformed when head office attempts to decimate Winnipeg region with funding cuts due to petty political infighting. We Winnipeg region Metis have had to endure three years of inaction, and slowly becoming one of the least funded regions, despite having the most members.. knowing Randy, he would not tolerate it. The Honorable Yvon Dumont has done more for Winnipeg region while not even in office yet.

--------------------------------------------------------
Randy De La Ronde has left a new comment on your post 'Blogger: Post a Comment':

It never ceases to amaze me what goes on in the blog eat blog world. In the political world.

It seems that the support train has rolled out for David Chartrand and it's never too late.

I will now say that we need a new President.

There is a debate tomorrow at the Freight House here in Winnipeg. So I heard. It's funny how these things work. It's always nice for David's team to promote these debates when it seems fit.
It is these tactics and these actions that I am tired of. 'Okay, Dumont's gone throw a Debate.'

People tell me to stay neutral and I can't do it. David must go.

As our leader and our President he has gone against our constitution by publicly affiliating our organization with the Federal Liberal Party. It is also alleged that he had something to gain with Glorian being a partner with Priority Financial. The allegations never stop.

Now with a huge campaign budget, (one can only assume where the money comes from), and friends in low places this is a challenge by any standards.(There are previous David Campaign members working at the Electoral Office)

It's always great to see so many of David's supporters at all the meetings, all the luncheons, all the gatherings, all the debates, all the.....you get the point. For the most part, I think that Dumont has nothing to worry about, unless these people can vote 100 times each, it should be a roll over. It's "It's always the same people, the same gravy train, and that's what has to stop. The ostracizing of individuals. The blatant disregard for Unity. David talks about Unity, we have never been so divided. We have never been so in need of change. Sure David talks about bringing our people together, about doing things that other people couldn't. Take the Land Claims case for example. He is taking all the credit for what past Presidents have done. I say he was in the right place at the right time, that's it. On his website, he claims that he's done what the other presidents have only dreamed of. That's a laugh. Yes David, you did it all ;oP Your the Best. Talking to other candidates, no body knew of the debate tomorrow until just a few moments ago. A days notice. I'm sure with Mr. Dumont campaigning in the North, it should be a landside victory for David at the debate tomorrow. Or will it ? There are issues and concerns that people have, and it never stops. It's funny how at the St. Norbert debate, nothing seemed to come of it. We were invited to a debate, what we as candidates got were five minutes of platform, with no rebuttals. Then we got to listen to David for an hour. Tomorrow will be different. David's camp got a chance to hear our platforms (those of us not supporting David) and tomorrow they are hoping to tear our platforms to shreds. Hoping to ask us questions. Good luck !! I'll even tell you what to ask me about. Ask me why I think suing our people is wrong.Ask me why I think we need houses in Winnipeg Region.Ask me why I think we need a different format for allocating funding to the Regions.Ask me why I think being taken off the voters list, (after it was submitted by the Region to Headquarters) is wrong.I can't wait till the debate tomorrow. All David's followers will be there, that you can guarantee.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Also talking to Mr. Johnson at the Electoral office, he is alarmed that I was Removed from the voters list, I'll hear from him tomorrow.
Funny thing though. It seems that Winnipeg's Regional Database was submitted to headoffice, which in turn submitted an older modified list. That's the talk down here. Can you say Saskatchewan ?What bugs me the most, talking to a friend in the North, I'm getting a lot of publicity regarding my straight forward approach to politics up there. Thanks for the notoriety. I'm being too aggressive with this campaign as David would say. Well why the h%^^ not. I'm not shooting from the bushes. I am right here addressing concerns that the everyday citizen has with the MMF. I can't wait till the election, we need a new President.
Aboriginal Musician's Association C D Review
Derryl:
This is David Munroe from Thompson. I bought a copy of the AMA CD from you at Teddy Bob's on Thu June 1st. I just wanted you to know that I thoroughly and unequivocally enjoyed every damn tune on the AMA debut CD. There sure is a lot of good Manitoba aboriginal talent out there.
The CD was very professionally produced and I enjoyed each artist's contribution. I can't wait until the next CD.
Keep up the good work, ya'll, and good luck to the AMA! Ekosi / Meegwetch!
David Munroe
This is one of many compliments the AMA have received since its C D release and Gala. Members are working consistantly in the industry and many were in attendance and performed for Randy Delaronde's fundraiser. Rap artist Blaze has been signed to a recording deal with a company out of Toronto, Ontario. Howard Nepinak has seen his song "Lonely Train", become a hit on Aboriginal radio in Alberta. Blaze, AMA vice-President Lucien Spence, and many other will be appearing on the ScotiaBank at the Forks in Winnipeg, June 21st, to help celebrate Aboriginal day. There are going to be many of the up and coming artists that are scheduled to also perform on that day. Don't miss it !! Any communities wishing to bring the Aboriginal Musician's Association variety show to your community, please email me at; metis_man@hotmail.com . Contact can also be made through Thundervoice News and Lucien Spence, 1 204 774 5628. More 2003 Manitoba Metis Federation Election Results And 2006 Candidates List
In the previous election results post, we centered in on three MMF regions; The Pas, Thompson and Southeast Regions of the MMF.
Today I will give you the last three rural regional vote totals and 2006 candidates. MMF Election Results 2003 and Official Candidates List
The results from the last Manitoba Metis Federation general election have been sent to me, and I will post the results and the official candidates list region by region.
The total number of Metis who exercised the right to vote in 2003 was 7,081. Expect that number to climb, as more and more people from Churchill to Emerson are voicing their displeasure with the current David Chartrand regime and want change.
The 2003 results for the positions that were elected by acclamation, will not be posted. Today I will be focusing on these regions that have had positions acclamated.
The Presidential Candidates for 2006 are of course, Yvon Dumont and the incumbant, David Chartrand.
Thompson Region Results 2003
Yvon Dumont 119
David Chartrand 205
Vice President by acclamation, Julyda Lagimodiere, 2006
The Pas region results 2003
President results 2003
Yvon Dumont 160
Dave Chartrand 504
Vice President by acclamation, Judy Mayer, 2006
Board member results 2003
Wendy Blackmon 212
Laura Hyrich 297
Joyce Langan 231
Richard Lowe 212
Anna Munro 147
Official Board member candidates for 2006 are, Dennis Bulycz, Louise Dewer, Darrel Ferland, Allan Fourre, Joyce Genaille, Melvin Hanson, Luara Hyrich and Kim Stephen.
In these three region you can fully expect Yvon Dumont to close the voting gap considerably on June 29th. While Chartrand has been busy taking care of the "elite Metis", as Miss Mayer stated in the Free Press, he has certainly forgotten the grassroots rural residents that helped him to power last time. The damaged relationship Chartrand has created with the province and the feds also has angered voters in these regions. Chartrand has no one to blame but his own need for total authority. He seems operate the same way as U.S. President George Bush...I ll do what I want and you can't stop me. I m so encouraged by the many e mails that are sent from these regions to Metis News and stuff and clearly this is an indication that we Metis are going to get the sorely needed change at the President position.
The election poll has been reset. This will occur on a weekly basis for the duration of the MMF election campaign. I ask all to please vote once only !!!
Randy Delaronde Fundraiser
Hats off to Winnipeg Region board member candidate Randy Delaronde for showing excellent composure and class while hosting a fundraisng event that was held at the Indian and Metis Friendship Centre on Saturday night. Unfortunately I was busy with another engagement and could only show up for a short time. The singers and musicians that I was able to talk to in that short time said they were having a super time despite the fact the band showed up late and minus a guitar player !!! Rayne Delaronde, Krista Rey, J.C Campbell, Kirk Harper, Tracy Bone, Lucien Spence, Chris Beach, Kimberly Dawn of NCI radio and many others performed with an acoustic guitar or soundtrack. There were many I guess you would say, infuential members of the Metis community in attendance at Randy's fundraiser. Outspoken and classy, "Kateri" Mary Pangman was there to support her nephew. Pangman was MMF President Chartrand's campaign manager for the last two elections, and probably one of the most influential Metis women in the province. We talked on the phone a few weeks ago and she stated she will not campaign for Chartrand this time around.....that was a shock to say the least !! The Metis nation should be happy to know, that she is still very much involved...just not with Dave's campaign. Read into that what you will. I was able to say hi to Randy's father, Raymond and Winnipeg region V P candidate Nelson Sanderson during my short visit to the event, Mary and Randy were on stage busy with the silent auction. Now I have to rant a bit...sorry. I m totally pissed off at the band for not showing OR even calling to state they would not show up. The Aboriginal Musician's Association helped to provide much of the entertainers that were on hand to perform for FREE. The only people to get paid was to be the band. I will stop short of mentioning the band's name. During my career, freelance musicians are the route that I have chosen as bandmates. So, my phone list of musicians is a long one. Even I could not access a full band with 45 minutes notice, on a Saturday no less !!!. Thanks to Wayne of the Mosquitos and Glen Dick, for doing the gig with 1/2 lead time. Ya know, every musician has to cancel a gig at one time or another but at least you phone the contact and give them the heads up.....The band that didn't show wouldn't even answer the cell phone and even shut it off after a while. I have to say that is the difference between professionalism, and a guy who just wants to play crappy gigs. Like I said earlier, the cancellation wasn't the problem...the problem was the lack of communication by the band. If there was a bit of warning given, even a day, we could have overcome the situation. Thanks to all the entertainers who sucked it up and performed outstandingly, despite the problems. We entertainers are a very tolerant bunch. So thats the extent of my rant....man it could be a lot worse !!
Stuck On The Third Floor Is Back
Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "Robert Chartrand and The MMF Election":
You don't post my comments that's cool I guess; at least I know now why it's because your one of 2 things scared of d.c. or your a d.c. supporter. all the comments I post are the truth as an employee I see alot of what that goes on here at 150-henry, I am stuck on the 3rd.fl. for now till dumont gets in as president then all of the comments that you kept off will be true and brought forward for all to see and it's sad that they don't know before hand that is why I sent you all those comments they were true words spoken as a MMF employee it's very sad what goes on here at the MMF it's sad for our youth and the uninformed public that are metis voters very very sad back to work or maybe I'll go check out staff appreciation for the MCFC staff once again... stuck on the 3rd.fl.
This person has been a regular contributor to the comment section of this blog for months now. He/she has left some very informative and possibly damaging items that deal with the goings on at 150 Henry. While in complete agreeance that we have to achieve a change of leadership on June 29th, I am having trouble verifying your comments. Who owns the office on Burrows ? Was it sold for a buck ? Is there a family member of Dave Chartrand that gets education funding, residence at the Clarion Hotel, while in the employ of the MMF ? The infamous green truck....who knows ?? I am definitely not a D C supporter as you have intimated. The advancement of the Metis nation is my major focus and I am convinced David Chartrand is not for the grassroots people.
Some facts that can be put forth; Winnipeg region has suffered in funding allocation from head office. The manipulation the rumoured Chartrand controlled, Provincial Management Board has resulted in the region having to claw for every dollar that it has been able to access. Just think, when Ron Chartrand took over as Vice President last election, the funding to Winnipeg region went from $600,000 in programs to ZERO, one day after the election. Employees worked for a week at NO pay. Who did Ron Chartrand support last election ?? The honorable Yvon Dumont. Does anyone thing the funding cut was a coincidence ?? Garbage tactics that the Winnipeg region voters will not forget.
June 29th vote for change...Vote Dumont.
