Forensic Audit of MNC To Proceed...B.C. Jumps Ship

I was hoping for this day. Occasionally over the two years of this blogs existance, and when things don't appear to happen quick enough, you kinda get frustrated.
It's days like this make the two years plus seem like a walk in the park.
Word from MetisMama has confirmed what many have been speculating was going to occur; The Metis National Council is indeed going under the feds accountability microscope and a forensic audit is going full steam ahead. Yeah baby !! MMF President and CEO Chartrand and his actions as MNC minister of everything, will certainly cost him profile points. He's probably done at the national level. As for those questionable contracts from the Health fund to his common law girlfriend......MNC and MMF number cruncher Bernie Shore won't be there to shield questions from the feds.
The news just gets worse for the President of the MNC Clem Chartier. In a press release, the Metis Nation of British Columbia has apparently chosen to taken a "leave of absence" from the embattled national Metis political body.
Métis Nation British Columbia (MNBC) Leave of Absence
Please be advised that the MNBC Board of Directors met this past weekend with the majority of the Métis Chartered Community leaders in British Columbia to discuss the current Métis National Council (MNC) developments. MNBC discussed a number of items including the current MNC default of the Health Canada Agreement in January 2008.
Countless reports from contributors here on MN&S, indicated that Clem and the President of the Manitoba Metis Federation David Chartrand, called all the shots over the previous two years at the MNC. Going to be interesting to see the fallout.......oops it's already begun with the B.C. jumping off board and the audit.
One important question ; Will this audit trail lead all the way back to Manitoba and the MMF board of directors ?
I asked awhile back about the relevance of this national organization. I didn't feel we needed two hands taking fees out of the Metis funding pot. Well, there ya go.
The next few weeks will tell the tale, but here's my prediction ;
The MNC is toast.
I'm sure that many of the grassroots Metis will not even raise a fuss.

Don't bother congratulating the PM. This government has known about the Chartrand, Chartier and Leclair shenanigans for over two years. The MNC was run into the ground long before the HC agreement.

It's funny how Bruce is "seeking clarification to how MNC will address this serious issue"...well, if he hadn't participated in booting Clem out in the first place, MNC wouldn't be where it is now!! If the four of them really cared about their people and their students, they should have thought everything through. If they just waited and let the election take place, MNC wouldn't have had to lay off everyone and have it's funding cut off. Bruce Dumont...what a true leader he is...how does he think that MNBC taking a leave of absence will bring the money in faster? Who will suffer again? The Metis people. All the government departments that deal with MNC are aware of what's happening at MNC and it's time to speak up and be heard. But instead, Bruce sheds all his responsibilities and sulks. What a loser. Thank goodness he didn't get elected as president of MNC.

I too believe the wheels were set in motion a long time ago.
The health agreement was the straw that broke the camel's back.

I find that - I must enter the fray on this. It would not have mattered if the majority of the Board of Governors would or would not have removed Clem. There are financial questions - not because Clem did or did not get elected in September, October or February - there are questions because of bad decisions, inappropriate expenses, missappropriation or just not getting the answers.

I do agree with the part of how tough this has been on the past staff of the MNC but either way - cheques would have bounced and you would have quit or been layed off like you are now. The financial issues are not because Clem had an election later then he wanted. Besides what did the staff want (most of which were not Metis) have the leaders help David and Clem cover up the financial mess?

Yes, and Metco Ventures, which was funded by the Health agreement even though strongly opposed by President Poitras in Alberta will undergo a Forensic audit as well.
It will be a tough time for the Metis people to hold their head high, but we must remember the responsability for the messes lies with the "elected officials". We, as grass roots people can still be proud of all of our collective efforts to get the information out to others, and we can continue to hold our heads high, as we work towards establishing a New national organization with fair representation, and honest handling of Public dollars. I will never give up standing up for the "truth", and it is important, when the Media misrepresents the issues, for us to speak about the issues to our Friends, our neighbors, Metis or not, about our Pride and our Goal to one day achieve true, democratic, responsable and ACCOUNTABLE self government. A time is coming when we will stand together. Still a proud Metis from Alberta

Sometimes organizations sink to such lowly depths the only way to recover is to blow them up and begin the re-building process ground up.

In the case of the MNC-MMF, they're imploding from years and years of bad management, neglect and excessive, unaccounted for spending by the leadership. As money runs out, leaders will increasingly begin to turn in on each other and start eating one another. This is what we're starting to see happen.

I'm just sick of hearing Bruce say this and that as to why the MNC is in the state they are in and asking why there isn't money going out to MNBC. He participated fully in bringing the MNC to the state they are in now. You don't complain after the fact and bow out. He's not the little angel he makes himself out to be...watch your back.

Way to go BC? Come on they are just hoping that as one of the first rats to abandon the sinking ship they will be overlooked in the thrashing water! Not one week after Bruce Dumont and Audrey Poitras puched his ass into the national seat MNBC received over a quarter of a million MHHRI dollars. Of the 25+ scholarship recipients the committee awarded none NONE have been given out. Perhaps one of the more politaclly savvy adults that post here can help us youth find out where the $ went. All we youth know is we were pormised something and never got it. This is typical with Keith Henry and his thugs. So if someone can help us please please do. Marie vonHumbolt the health dirctor resigned in January, 2 really good MHRDA program managers resigned, the director for Metis child and family in PG has resigned. Wake up BC the Keith Henry travelling geriatric snake oil show is CORRUPT, they are stealing from us, they bully and threaten to have their way. They are pouring MHRDA and health dollars into their private school which the last I could trace was owned by Rene Therrien, Rose Bortolon and Rick WIlmot (2006) and the two MHRDA watch dogs put in charge of all the MHHRI $, Malonie and Marlin are allowing it. So again if a politcally savvy adult can contact these people or find out more please do so. If I try to I know they will pull my sisters MHRDA funding. I have long ago kissed my promised health scholarship good bye.

Hi there:

I find it interesting that we are all obviously talking about an issue that concerns all of us...yet nobody seems to have the courage to make their names known in public.

It is all fine and dandy to voice your opinion, but if you are going to be discussing the future of our nation, the relationship of our leaders and the fate of our national body, it seems appropriate that your name should accompany your thoughts.

There are not that many of us out there. Let your comments stand for the record. If you don't like something, change it. If you support something, ;et it be heard. Both are important aspects of democracy. Hiding behind anonymous comments is not.
