Four hopefuls are vying for the one council seat and the front runners are clearly established at this point, with the advantage to an Aboriginal candidate.
NDP cast off Rod Geisbrecht, former Winnipeg Jet Thomas Steen, Manitoba Metis Federation local chairperson Nelson Sanderson and daughter of NDP Minister Eric Robinson, Shaneen, all have that political sparkle in their eyes right now, with only one being able to hold bragging rights after October 27th, election day.

While there are two Aboriginal candidates in this race, it appears that Shaneen Robinson has not only distanced herself from the other Ab candidate in terms of momentum and political connections, she also has the early lead according to 10 riding residents.
This area of Winnipeg has seen its demographics change steadily over the past decade with area boasting a higher population of Aboriginal peoples (many Metis in Elmwood-EK) than in previous election years.
As far as my personal voting preference, I have to be leaning towards the Robinson camp. This young lady shows real determination and is certainly not riding on her popular dads' coattails....(although I'm certain Eric is doing all he can to help, he's her dad, nothing wrong with that) She also has attracted endorsements from high profile organizations including the Fireman's union and the New Democratic Party of Manitoba's key support.
Nelson Sanderson is a family member of mine, who has tried his hand at Metis politics previously. As Sanderson is running as an independent with no endorsements or party cash, he wont make much of an impact.
Steen, he's an area outsider who main claim to fame outside of his distinguished hockey career has been as a failed investor who got torched for a lot of money from a failed booze company.
Geisbrecht couldn't see the writing on the wall. When your own party says your not the "guy"......then hey, you're not the guy. I do appreciate that Rod is putting up a hell of a lot of lawn signs but this is NDP territory and I do believe come October, we will see the first Aboriginal lady elected to Winnipeg city council.

to the "family member" who wrote as anonymous....if you dont like my political views thats' your choice. As for me voting based strictly on family basis...not a chance. I didn't solicit hard for my families vote during the last MMF election and did quite well.
I dont believe in Nelson's politics, don't like Steen and I do support a youthful forward thinking Ab candidate.....by the way, what I wrote was true and if I was to print your personal attack on me , your candidate would just look bad :)
Nelson's a big boy, he knows I vote NDP provincially and you know what ? as you even took the time to mention my deceased father, my dad would have voted the same way
lol...I have never in all my years of blogging received such hateful, spiteful email as I have from backing another cnadidate other than my uncle !!
Blog about David, The MNC, Alberta Metis and BC as well, but holy smokes , the distasteful stuff I got after backing Shaneen ?? Pitiful.
Some family member doesn't appreciate the democratic process.
Last word on this subject unless you have a name and an open email.
I dont hide behind this blog and am always in the public singing or otherwise.
Want to get into negative family history on a blog ?? We ALL have lots of it.
Ask many, I dont believe in Nelson's politics....and you don't want me to get into reasons why.
Anonymous family memebrs like you are negative to a manitstream candidate...really want me to post your e mail ?
Give a name and an email...then I can rebut.
Politics is all....
by the way if anyone is interested, Giesbrecht is making an impact.
by the way...I did try to talk to Nelson and he hung up !!
